A key word that you will see:

Fragmentation: a mental process where a person becomes intensely emotionally focused on one aspect of themselves, such as “I am angry” or “no one loves me,” to the point where all thoughts, feelings and behavior demonstrate this emotional state, in which, the person does not or is unable to take into account the reality of their environment, others or themselves and their resources. This is a term that my therapist and I use and is on the continuum of dissociation.

Like Your Name?

HelloMyNameIs-main_FullClinically Clueless in Southern California pondering my name. Another silly day is here today. It is "National Get A Different Name Day." The day is for those of us who want to change your name for a day.

It did get me thinking about my name and what I would like to change. Because I didn't have a father in my life, but had his last name, I always wanted to change it to my grandparents name. Then, I got used to it and started working and signing way too many documents and I liked signing it.

Then, I married and have my husband's last name which is a pain to pronounce and write. It is only curves...boring!!! However, my husband is worth it. My grandpa used to tease my by telling me, "say your last name!!" He knew I couldn't pronounce it properly. LOL

I wouldn't change my name because my parents gave it to me. We have 4 adopted children, 3 of whom we adopted at a later age. They had fun choosing their own names. We have kept their birth names as their middle names for sentimental reasons. By choosing a new name, it made their "new life" more meaningful.

What a wonderful story. Names can be very important. I love the way that you handled the names of your adopted children.
