A key word that you will see:

Fragmentation: a mental process where a person becomes intensely emotionally focused on one aspect of themselves, such as “I am angry” or “no one loves me,” to the point where all thoughts, feelings and behavior demonstrate this emotional state, in which, the person does not or is unable to take into account the reality of their environment, others or themselves and their resources. This is a term that my therapist and I use and is on the continuum of dissociation.

Angry and Fed Up!!

I know that I'm being a bit sensitive, but I received this comment regarding Gay Pride Month.  I have not posted his comments in the past as he seems to want to argue about everything that I write.  This is his comment.

"Old hat and very tired.

If groups like this want to stop discrimination then maybe, just maybe they should just lead normal lives and knock this crap on the head.

What if I organised a 'sick of seeing gay pride marches march'?

Well I'm sure I'd be called a bigot and lambasted. Yet in a true democracy you are supposed to allow each sides view with equal measure.

Its similar to the point of MOBO awards (music of black origin). What if I organised an award for only white origin?

Sick to death of these groups actually perpetuating the prejudice. Lets be honest gays and lesbians etc have been accepted for a long time and most of the prejudice is present in their head.

Time to move on and stop subjecting the rest of us to this nonsense."

I became really angry about this comment and wanted to say, "Do you know what the hell you are talking about!!!  Can we torture you and kill you for just for living in Thailand because you are British.  Oh, yes they have the same rights like they can marry!!"

All other comments are welcome...I won't delete them. Please continue threads and make comments about other comments.

Hi.

I think pride is an important part of living a normal life, especially for minorities.

Comments like this are a real problem. As soon as any progress is made comments like this come out that everything is now OK.

A few minutes speaking to any group of gay people will let anyone know that things are far from OK as yet.

I do think that things have changed enormously in the last couple of decades (in Australia where I live) but there is an awfully long way to go before homophobia is no more.

me as i am said...

people express homophobia in all kinds of ways. it can be so infuriating to hear people say ignorant or hateful things. what's even sadder to me is that this person is not so rare, and their views are taught and reinforced by parents, churches, politicians, media, etc. i think when prejudice is learned and reinforced, it's really hard to see the truth. it just shows how much further we have left to go in raising awareness and ending homophobia, exactly like you're doing here.

i think one thing at work here also is that people in privilege (like straight white males) are often completely unaware of the experience that underpriviledged people in society live with every day. it's like they have blinders on and can't escape that self-centered worldview. this person could do well to step outside of their comfort zone and try to learn more about subjects they try to talk about with authority. because obviously this person has no idea what they're talking about.

maybe just the fact that they came here to your blog and read what you wrote will help them hopefully begin to think about this subject more deeply. even if they don't show it to you. and even if they aren't ready to adopt a more accepting and open-minded viewpoint towards their fellow humans YET, hopefully they are on their way towards that.

i think you're angry because you care. thank you for caring and talking about it here :)

oh, and i do NOT think you're being "too" sensitive.

you're being sensitive - period. and that's a good thing :)

Excuse my language, but what an ASSHOLE and bigot! Discrimination against LGBTQ is absolutely NOT a fallacy-- gay marriage isn't even the tip of the iceberg of this issue. The fact that he said "If groups like this want to stop discrimination then maybe, just maybe they should lead normal lives..." shows that the discrimination is most certainly alive. Their lives are just as normal as heterosexual lives. They are just different.

Ugh. It's so frustrating to see this kind of hate in the world.

Wishing you well,
NOS
